Woo Essential Review
Table of Contents

We build in this exact space, so we've kept a close eye on Woo Essential since it first launched.

It's one of the more established Divi-native WooCommerce plugins on the market, and a lot of Divi store owners ask us how it compares before deciding what to install.

So here's our honest take. We're not a neutral third party. DiviMerc competes in the same category.

But we're holding Woo Essential to the same standard we'd want applied to us: real strengths named clearly, real limitations named clearly and nothing hidden in either direction.

Let's get into it.

Woo Essential Review Summary

CriteriaScore (Out of 5)
Ease of Use4.0
Feature Range3.8
Divi 5 Compatibility4.5
Design Flexibility4.2
Third-Party Independence3.0
Pricing4.2
Support4.3
Overall Score4.0 / 5

Woo Essential is a genuinely capable Divi module pack for WooCommerce stores, and it's fully compatible with both Divi 4 and Divi 5.

Where it loses points is feature completeness compared to newer competitors, and a real dependency issue on two free third-party plugins that its own marketing doesn't lead with.

What We Liked

  • 10+ dedicated Divi modules built specifically for WooCommerce
  • Native Divi Builder integration – no separate visual editor to learn
  • Full Divi 4 and Divi 5 compatibility, confirmed on a single license
  • 90+ pre-built layouts and 16+ starter templates to launch faster
  • Genuinely positive independent user reviews on ease of use and support

Where It Could Be Better

  • Despite the all in one framing, the Wishlist and Compare features require you to install two separate free YITH plugins to function at all
  • No native checkout customization tools, focuses entirely on shop and product pages
  • No built-in urgency or social-proof elements (stock counters, sales counters, live visitor counts)
  • Might have some learning curve for comparatively new users

Woo Essential Key Features

Woo Essential's 10+ modules break down into four practical groups, based on what job each one actually does for a store.

Shopping and Discovery Tools

  • Mini Cart: Lets shoppers view and manage their cart from anywhere on the site without a full page reload.
  • Ajax Search: Instant product search that filters results without reloading the page.
  • Quick View: A popup that shows product details, pricing, and an add-to-cart option without leaving the current page.

Product Display Modules

  • Product Carousel: A slider layout for featuring specific products or collections.
  • Product Grid: A structured grid layout for browsing full catalogs or categories.
  • Product Accordion: A collapsible list layout, useful for showing more products in less vertical space.
  • Category Carousel, Category Accordion, Category Grid and Category Masonry: Four separate layout styles specifically for displaying product categories rather than individual products.

Variation and Comparison Tools

  • Variation Swatches: Replaces WooCommerce's default dropdown selector with four visual styles – button, radio, color swatch and image swatch.
  • Wishlist: Lets customers save products to revisit later. This module requires the free YITH WooCommerce Wishlist plugin to be installed separately. Woo Essential builds the Divi-side display, but the underlying wishlist functionality comes from YITH's plugin, not Woo Essential itself.
  • Compare: Lets customers compare multiple products side by side in a table. This one requires the free YITH WooCommerce Compare plugin, for the same reason.

Shop Builder and Starter Templates

Beyond the individual modules, Woo Essential includes a Divi Shop Builder for assembling full store pages, plus 90+ pre-made layouts and 16+ starter templates covering common store types, so you're not designing every page from a blank canvas.

The Hidden Cost: What Woo Essential's Marketing Doesn't Lead With

This is worth its own section because we haven't seen it spelled out clearly anywhere else, including in Woo Essential's own documentation.

Woo Essential is marketed as a complete WooCommerce toolkit for Divi. In practice, two of its 10+ modules, Wishlist and Compare, don't actually work until you separately install and activate YITH WooCommerce Wishlist and YITH WooCommerce Compare.

Both are free plugins from a different company. Woo Essential's module simply provides the Divi-side display layer on top of them.

That means if you want Woo Essential's full advertised feature set working, you're not running one plugin, you're running three. That's not necessarily a dealbreaker; YITH's plugins are free, well-established and reliable.

But it does mean the "everything in one plugin" pitch isn't quite accurate for two of its most customer-facing features. And, it's worth knowing before you count on Woo Essential alone to deliver a wishlist experience out of the box.

Where Woo Essential Falls Short

Beyond the YITH dependency above, a few other gaps are worth naming plainly:

No checkout customization: Woo Essential doesn't include any tools for editing, reordering or simplifying WooCommerce's checkout fields. This is something several competing Divi WooCommerce plugins do include natively.

No urgency or social-proof modules: There's no built-in stock counter, sales counter or live-visitor indicator. If conversion psychology on the product page matters to your store, you'll need a separate plugin for that layer entirely.

A real learning curve: This isn't just our reading, it shows up in independent user reviews too. More than one reviewer has described needing time before the module logic "clicks," particularly for anyone newer to Divi's builder conventions.

Woo Essential Pricing

Based on current listings, Woo Essential is priced as follows:

  • Single site (annual): $49/year
  • Unlimited sites (annual): $79/year
  • Unlimited sites (lifetime): $289

All tiers include the full module set, starter templates and layout library, with support and updates for the license period you choose.

Woo Essential vs. Other Divi WooCommerce Plugins

Woo Essential isn't the only Divi-native WooCommerce plugin on the market, and as far as we could find, nobody has actually put the main three side by side yet.

So here's that comparison – Woo Essential against Divi WooCommerce Extended (another established competitor) and DiviMerc.

A few honest takeaways from putting these side by side:

  • Woo Essential and Divi WooCommerce Extended both focus heavily on cart and discovery tools
  • Divi WooCommerce Extended pulling ahead on checkout customization and dependency independence.
  • DiviMerc takes a different approach entirely. It doesn't compete for Mini Cart or Ajax Search at all. Instead, it concentrates on the product page itself: variation experience, merchandising and conversion signals like urgency and social proof, none of which the other two currently offer.

Which one is best? Genuinely, that depends on what your store is missing. If your gap is cart and search convenience, Woo Essential or Divi WooCommerce Extended fit that job.

If your gap is a product page that doesn't yet build trust or urgency, that's the space DiviMerc is built for specifically.

How We Reviewed Woo Essential

To keep this review grounded, we didn't rely on Woo Essential's own marketing copy alone. Here's what went into it:

  • Full module audit: We cross-checked Woo Essential's current module list against its own documentation and marketplace listing to confirm what's actually included today, since plugin feature sets change over time and older reviews online are already out of date on the module count.
  • Independent review analysis: We read through third-party reviews and marketplace testimonials (not just the vendor's own featured quotes) to identify patterns in what real users praise and what they struggle with.
  • Pricing verification: We checked current pricing directly against Woo Essential's own listings rather than repeating older figures that may no longer be accurate.
  • Direct feature comparison: We built the three-way comparison table above by checking each plugin's own documentation for feature claims, rather than relying on any single vendor's comparison page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Woo Essential free?

No. Woo Essential is a premium plugin starting at $49/year for a single site, with unlimited-site and lifetime options also available.

Does Woo Essential work with Divi 5?

Yes. Woo Essential is compatible with both Divi 4 and Divi 5 under a single license, with no separate purchase required to use either version.

Does Woo Essential require any other plugins to work?

Partially. Most of Woo Essential's modules are fully self-contained, but two features (Wishlist and Compare) require separately installing the free YITH WooCommerce Wishlist and YITH WooCommerce Compare plugins to function.

How does Woo Essential compare to DiviMerc?

They solve different problems. Woo Essential focuses on cart, search and browsing convenience (Mini Cart, Ajax Search, Quick View, product carousels and grids). DiviMerc focuses on the product page itself (variation swatches, size charts, urgency signals and trust badges). Some stores may want both; it depends on which gap you're trying to close first.

Is there a free version of Woo Essential?

Woo Essential does not currently offer a free version or free tier of its own. Its Wishlist and Compare modules do rely on genuinely free YITH plugins, but the core Woo Essential plugin itself is paid-only.

Is Woo Essential worth it for a small store?

If your priority is faster browsing and a better cart experience, yes, it's a reasonably priced way to add that without custom development. If your bigger gap is product-page conversion (urgency, trust, variation experience), it's worth comparing against options built specifically for that job before deciding.

Closing Thoughts: Is Woo Essential Worth It?

Woo Essential does what it sets out to do reasonably well: it gives Divi store owners a native way to add cart, search and browsing tools without custom code, and its Divi 5 compatibility is genuinely current, not just claimed.

Where we'd pump the brakes a little is the "all-in-one" framing. Two of its most customer-facing features depend on separate free plugins to actually work. Plus, it doesn't touch checkout customization or conversion-focused elements like urgency and social proof at all.

If cart and discovery tools are what your store is missing, Woo Essential is a reasonable, fairly priced pick. Just go in knowing you may end up running three plugins, not one.

If what your store actually needs is a stronger product page (better variation selection, real urgency signals, and trust-building elements), that's a different job. For that purpose, we specifically built DiviMerc.

Either way, we'd rather you make that call with the full picture than a sales page's version of it.
